Large intestine is the major portion of the digestive tract which begins at the cecum and ends at the anus. It consists of the cecum, colon, rectum, and anal canal. The large intestine absorbs ions, nutrients and last of water and stores feces until the occurrence of defecation.

large intestine has basically 3 parts namely caecum, colon (ascending, transverse, and descending), basically the main function in the digestion of the food are performed by the small intestine so large intestine has very minor role to play. large intestine functions in absorption of water, minerals and secretion of mucus which helps in lubrication
