Diffusion is the movement of molecules from areas of high concentration to low concentration. Diffusion plays an important role in plants. Plants absorb water and nutrients from the soil through diffusion. The diffusion of water molecules takes place from soil which is recently watered (high concentration) to the plants that lack water (low concentration).

This is how the mechanism of diffusion works.

Over small distances substances move by diffusion. It is a passive process.they move from high concentration to the regions of low concentration. Diffusion is very important to plants as it is the only means of gaseous transport in the plant body.
