The advantages of producing plants by micropropagation are:

  1. Large number of plants can be produced from a small amount of explants in a short period. It leads to faster multiplication.
  2. Multiplication of plants is independent of season
  3. Genetically identical plants can be produced
  4. Sterile hybrids can be propagated
  5. Disease free plants can be obtained
  6. Plants that have lost the capacity to produce seeds can be propagated
  7. Valuable germplasm can be stored for a long time. Gene banks can be more easily established
