Adam’s apple is also known as laryngeal prominence. It is the protuberance of the thyroid cartilage of the larynx lying just under the skin.

It is palpable as well as visible in males while it is hardly palpable and less visible in females. The size of the Adam’s apple i.e. the prominence can  be reduced by undergoing a surgery known as chondrolaryngoplasty
