Apical dominancy is the phenomenon seen in plants in which the growth of axillary (lateral) bud is inhibited by the growth of apical bud due to the presence of auxins in the shoot apex. When the apical bud is cut the lateral buds starts developing branches. The apical dominance is exploited in the tea plantation.
