The green algae differ from the plants by the following characteristic feature:

  1. Mostly aquatic forms
  2. Green algae exhibit a wide variety of thallus organization i.e. from unicellular, colonial, multicellular plant like forms.
  3. Some members of the green algae are motile.
  4. The thallus of green algae is not differentiated into stem, root and leaves.
  5. The complex multicellular green algae are like plant with the structures similar to the leaves, stems and roots.
