Binomial nomenclature is the scientific procedure of naming the living organisms.

It is the system of nomenclature of plants and animals in which each scientific name consists of two parts or sub-names.

According to this system, the scientific name of Common Fern is Nephrolepis exaltata and that of man is Homo sapiens.

The scientific name consists of two parts. The first part of the name i.e. Nephrolepis or Homo which represent the genus (generic name).

The second part of the name i.e. exaltata or sapiens which represent the name of the species (specific name).
