Heroin is a white crystalline powder derived from morphine.
It is chemically diacetylmorphine, produced by the acetylation of morphine, which is obtained from the latex of
Papaver somniferum
(poppy plant).
It is highly addictive and produces craving.
Psychic dependence is strong and develops early.
It is internationally banned even for medical use.
Generally, it is taken by snorting and injections.
It is a depressant and slows down the body functions.
It is commonly called as Smack.
Its withdrawal symptoms include diarrhoea, vomiting, twitching of muscles, abdominal and other muscle cramps, shivering and perspiration.
