Plasmolysis occurs in the plant cell when there is excess loss of water through leaves to the surroundings, as a result the water is drawn from the protoplasm and so that the protoplasm shrinks away from the cell wall.  The plasmolysis helps the plant Plasmolysis is important as it helps the plant by shrinking the protoplasm thereby controlling the plant from wilting.
