Why photorespiration is considered a loss to C3 plants?

Some O₂ binds to RuBisCo due to which fixation of CO₂ is reduced and forms phosphoglycerate and phosphoglycerate instead of forming 2 molecules of PGA is called photorespiration. In this pathway no sugars, nor of ATP is synthesised.

There is also release of CO₂ with the utilization of ATP molecules.
