Ionophores are small hydrophobic molecules that are usually synthesized by microorganisms, which dissolve in lipid bilayers and increase the permeability of the cell membrane to specific ions. Ionophore facilitates the transport of substances across the cell membrane.

Some of the examples of Ionophores are:

  1. Valinomycin
  2. Calcimycin
  3. Nystatin
  4. Ionomycin
