Glomerular Filtration

  • The formation of urine involves three processes: (1) glomerular filtration, (2) tubular reabsorption, and (3) tubular secretion.
  • Glomerular filtration is the first step in urine formation which depends on blood pressure (BP), capsular hydrostatic pressure (CHP), and blood colloid osmotic pressure (BCOP).
  • It filters protein-free plasma fluid and solutes (water, amino acids, ions, bicarbonate, glucose, and waste products i.e., urea, creatinine) from the glomerular capillaries into Bowman’s capsule.
