According to the position of proteins in the cell membrane they are of two main types:
1) Extrinsic or peripheral proteins, 2) Intrinsic or integral proteins
Proteins may also be classified according to the function. They fall into three types:
1) Structural proteins, 2) Enzymes, 3) Transport proteins
