It is the phenomenon wherein, the ovary develops into a fruit without fertilisation. Even though in most of the species, fruits appear because of fertilisation, there are also few species in which fruits develop without fertilisation. These types of fruits are called parthenocarpic fruits for examples: banana, grape, navel orange, persimmon, pineapple etc. Parthenocarpy can be persuaded through the application of growth hormones to grow seedless fruits.
