Blue green algal blooms are caused due to enrichment of the water bodies (Lakes and Ponds) by nutrients such as Nitrogen and Phosphorous which support the algal growth. They may enter the water bodies due to excessive use of chemical pesticides and fertilizers.
Also, the reversal of temperature in the water bodies results in bloom.
