Sprain: It refers to a injury to a joint capsule, typically involving stretching or tearing of ligaments or tendons.

Strain: In contrast to sprain, strain involves less stretching or twisting of a joint. Muscles and tendons maybe stretched and become somewhat painful. There is no major damage to ligaments and other joint tissues.
