Transgenic crops are plants, which carry modified foreign DNA from transgenic species inserted through genetic engineering technique. The foreign sequence may be from the same species or from completely different species. In transgenic crops only the desired sequence of agronomic importance is introduced from the donor unlike conventional breeding in which all crops are genetically modified from their wild state by either domestication, selection or controlled breeding over long periods of time.

Examples: Bt cotton, golden rice etc.
