STRUCTURE OF RABIES VIRUS
-
The Rabies virus belong to the family Rhabdoviridae
-
It is bullet shaped measuring about 130-240 nm in length
-
It contains single stranded RNA with negative polarity.
-
The envelop is a bilayer membrane which is lipid soluble. It consists of projections (6-7nm) which consists of Glycoprotein (G protein) having a molecular weight of 65,000-80,000 and Matrix proteins (M1 and M2) having a molecular weight of 20,000-25,000.
-
It has RNA dependent RNA transcriptase
