The hybridization between two species of the same genus is called interspecific hybridization.
It can also be defined as the crossing over between two individuals of different species of the same genus.
For example:
Hybridization between Saccharum officinarum and Saccharum spontaneum
Here, the crossing over takes place between two plants belonging to the same genus i.e. Saccharum but different species.
Disease resistant varieties of crops can be obtained by using interspecific hybridization.
Interspecific hybridization is also called as Inter-generic hybridization.
