Meristematic tissues are located at the sites of active division in plants. Depending upon the location they help in primary and secondary growth of the plant.

Primary meristems, the apical meristem are located at the tips of root, stem and their branches and the intercalary meristem at the base of leaves, above and below the nodes.

Secondary meristems formed from the permanent tissues by dedifferentiation are usually found as lateral meristem on the sides of the plant and help in increasing the girth.
