The plant which drives both the C3 cycle and C4 cycle, such plants are known as C4 plants. In these plants the first stable compound produced is oxalo acetic acid which is a 4 carbon compound so called as C4 plants. In these plants C3 cycle take place in bundle sheath and C4 cycle takes place in the mesophyll cells. These plants have a special type of anatomy known as Kranz anatomy. It is characterized by the presence of predominantly large cells around the vascular bundle known as the bundle sheath cells. It possesses large number of chloroplast, with thick walled cells and without intercellular spaces.
