Phosphoenol pyruvate (PEP) combines with carbon dioxide to form a 4 carbon compound Oxalo acetic acid, this process is known as carboxylation. This reaction is catalyzed by the enzyme phosphoenol pyruvate carboxylase (PEP - carboxylase).
