CYTOCHROME PUMP HYPOTHESIS
Lundegardh in 1954. Theory supports that there is direct co relation between the anion absorption and respiration. The transport of anions takes place through cytochrome system, so the cytochrome acts as carrier.
The main assumptions of this theory are:
-
The protons and electrons are produced in the inner surface of the membrane.
-
Anions are picked up by the cytochrome from the outer membrane and is transported into the inner surface.
-
The electrons are released by taking the anions in its place.
-
Anions are absorbed by the cytochrome chain by the active process.
-
Cations absorption takes place passively.
