There are different types of trichomes having different functions. The foliar trichomes help in regulation of exchange of moisture with the atmosphere. The covering hairs defence the plant against phytophagous insects, whereas the secretory trichomes provide chemical defence against insects. The stinging hair protects the plants from animals.
