The adrenal glands comprise the cortex and medulla. These endocrine organs are located just above the kidneys.

Glands Hormone Released
Adrenal cortex

1) Glucocorticoids

2) Mineralocorticoids

3) Sex hormones (small amounts of the sex hormones estrogen and testosterone)

Adrenal medulla Epinephrine and norepinephrine

Followings are the chief functions of these hormones:

Glucocorticoids - Promote liver formation of glucose and glycogen, stimulate breakdown of protein, anti-inflammatory effects

Mineralocorticoids - Reabsorb sodium and water by the kidneys excrete potassium

Sex hormones - Stimulate reproductive organs

Epinephrine and norepinephrine - These hormones target most cells of the body, increase cardiac activity, raise blood glucose level, release stored lipids
