The first step in the process of secondary growth is the formation of the cambial ring. The intra fascicular cambium as well as the cells of the medullary rays which is lying along the line of the fascicular cambium also become meristematic. The inter fascicular cambium joins with the strips of intra fascicular cambium to form the complete cambial ring. The cambial ring gives rise to secondary tissues like secondary xylem and the secondary phloem in the stellar region. This secondary cells are produced towards the outer and inner sides uniformly forming a compact cylinder of secondary tissue.
