Moss plant is a bryophyte which is distributed widely and lives in damp places. In the mosses the haploid gametophytic generation is prominent. It has the leaves, stem and root like rhizoids. The stem bears the spirally arranged leaves and the rhizoid fixes the plant to the soil and also absorbs salt and water. When the gametophyte attains the maximum growth it develops the sex organs antheridia and archegonia at the tip of the stem. It undergoes sexual reproduction by syngamy resulting in the formation of the zygote which gives rise to the diploid sporophyte. The sporophyte lives as a parasite on the gametophytic plant body. The sporophyte produces haploid spores which germinates and give rise to the protonema from which the stem of gametophyte grows up and complete the life cycle.
