After the pollination the functional megaspore enlarges in size which then undergoes division and transforms into a multicellular female gametophyte. At the micropylar end 2-8 archegonia are developed which has the neck and the venter; the venter encloses the egg and a venter canal cell. Similarly shortly after pollination the pollen grains germinates. The exine ruptures and intine gives out the pollen tube. The sperms are produced inside the pollen tube which then fuses with the egg cell to produce the zygote.
