1. Sporophyte is diploid.

2. The sporophyte reproduces by spores.

2. The gametophyte reproduces sexually.

3. Sporophytes produce male and female spores.

4. In bryophytes sporophyte is a complex structure which depends on the gametophyte.

4.  The plant body is the dominant gametophyte which is independent.

5. In pteridophytes, gymnosperms and angiosperms the sporophyte is dominant.

5. But the gametophyte is very reduced in the pteridophytes, gymnosperms and angiosperms.

6. The spores produced by the sporophyte later develop into gametophyte.

6. The gametes produced by the gametophyte fuses to form the zygote which later develops into the sporophyte.

7. The sporophytic phase is the asexual phase in the life cycle.

7. The gametophytic phase is the sexual phase in the life cycle.
