In vitro fertilisation (IVF) is one of the artificial, simplest and least expensive reproductive technologies for couples who are unable to conceive.
This method is commonly known as the ‘Test Tube Baby’ program.
In this method, ova from the female and sperms from the male are collected and are induced to form zygote under simulated conditions in laboratory glassware.
The fertilized egg is allowed to develop for two-four days and later, when fertilization is confirmed, the embryo is inserted into the uterus of the woman via the vagina.
The method is called in vitro fertilization because the eggs are fertilized outside the body, i.e., under glass.
