In most of the plant at first the lateral buds which are located in the axils of leaves does not grow to form the branches. This condition is known as the apical dominance. This apical dominance is due to the presence of IAA in abundance. The auxin causes the lateral buds to remain dormant and higher concentration cause the apical bud to grow. The lateral buds are more sensitive to auxins than the apical bud. The removal of apical bud removes the IAA concentration so the lateral buds will break their dormancy and begins to grow. In effects the plant becomes bushier when the tip of the plant is removed by the gardener while trimming the garden plants.
