The multiplication of viruses takes place in the following steps:

  1. The virus attaches itself to the host cell
  2. It injects the DNA into the host cell
  3. Destruction of host cell DNA takes place with the DNase of phage. Replication of phage DNA takes place
  4. Transcription of phage m-RNA on phage DNA and protein synthesis
  5. Formation of protein coat around the phage DNA
  6. Production of mature phages and their release by lysis of the host cell
