Azotobacter is a nitrogen fixing bacteria. It plays an important role in the agriculture. The most predominant species which are commonly used are Azotobacter chrooccum and Azotobacter vinelandii. The mixture of Azobacter, Azospirillum and phosphate solubilizing bacteria are also used for the non-leguminous crops like cereals, vegetables etc. It is mostly useful for the monocot vegetables. The bacteria fixes the atmospheric nitrogen and makes it available to plants by an asymbiotic way. Thereby it increases the yield of the farm lands.
