Plasmolysis is the process that takes place when the cell is placed in a hypertonic solution. The movement of water molecules from the protoplasm to the hypertonic solution; that is the region of higher concentration to a region of lower concentration of water molecules. This process can be reversed when the cell is placed in a hypotonic solution so that the water molecules enter the cell. The process reversal of plasmolysis occurs there the shrink protoplasm can be regained.
