Root system is well developed with root hairs and root caps. Root hairs are lateral extensions of a single cell, rarely branched, found in the region of maturation of the root.

Root hairs are the ultimate units of water absorption and occur in a zone behind the growing tip. The water absorbed by the root hairs is translocated upwards through the xylem.

Root hairs, the epidermal cells of roots that produce tubular extensions, that adhere tightly to soil particles are responsible for absorbing water and minerals from the soil. The root hairs greatly increase the total surface area of the root which makes absorbing both water and minerals more efficient using osmosis.
