MERISTEMATIC ZONE OF A ROOT

The meristematic zone of a root is also known as its growing point.

It is about 1mm in length.

It is located partially within and partially behind the root cap in the sub-apical region.

The cells in this zone show prominent nucleus and dense cytoplasm.

These cells are constantly dividing meristematic cells which constantly keep on adding new cells to the root and root cap.
