Functional genomics refers to the analysis of globe gene expression and gene functions in a genome.
Here, the emphasis is on “high throughput” which is simultaneously the analysis of all genes in a genome.
The high throughput approaches of all the expressed genes is also termed as Transcriptome analysis, which is the expression analysis of the full set of RNA molecules produced by a cell under the given set of conditions.
Information collected from various molecular techniques such as EST’s SAGE (Serial Analysis of Gene Expression), Microarray analysis, etc are gathered and stored.
Using the statistical techniques, these data are quantitatively screened and analyzed.
