Mulberry silk is obtained from
Bombyx mori
.
There are two varieties of
Bombyx mori
namely, Univoltine and Multivoltine.
The European moth
Bombyx mori
is Univoltine. It gives only one silk crop in a year.
It produces large cocoon having good quality of silk fibre. The fibre is white or yellow in colour. It is mostly found in
Kashmir
.
Multivoltine moth gives six to eight crops per year.
This variety is found in
Bengal
and Karnataka.
