The zygote is the first cell of sporophytic generation. The diploid zygote is formed by the fusion of haploid egg and the haploid antherozoids. The zygote divides and enlarges in size and secretes a cell wall which is retained inside the venter. The diploid zygote give rise to the sporophytic plant body.
