FORMATION OF LYMPHOCYTES:
-
The precursor of lymphocytes are the stem cells (haematoblasts) present in the liver of foetus and in the bone marrow of adult.
-
Immature lymphocytes are produced from there stem cells by the process of haematopoiesis or lymphopoiesis.
-
Some of these get matured in the bone marrow itself and some of them mature in the thymus.
-
Maturation of B-cells takes place in the bone marrow and final differentiation takes place in the lymphoid tissue of spleen, tonsils, Peyer’s patches of small intestine, appendix, etc.
-
T-cells are formed from the stem cells in bone marrow and maturation takes place in the thymus.
