The basic functions of Blood are:

  1. Transport of Nutrients( such as Amino Acids, Glucose), Minerals, Hormones, Enzymes to cells
  2. Facilitates the transport of respiratory  gases ( i.e. Oxygen from the Lungs to the different parts of the body and Carbon Dioxide from the body cells to the lungs)
  3. It regulates the pH, Body temperature and water content of the cells thereby maintaining Homeostasis.
  4. Plays a major role in fighting infections through its Defense Cells i.e., WBC’s
  5. Plays an important role in Clotting thereby preventing blood loss.
