Spermatogenesis is the process of sperm formation (sperm cells). Or we may say it is the production of sperm in males by the process of meiosis and maturation.
Testis carries out spermatogenesis within the pouches of the scrotal sac. Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) secreted by the anterior pituitary gland stimulates spermatogenesis. Sperm production requires several cell divisions.
Spermatozoon the process of making and maturing a sperm cell generally takes up to 65 to 75 days and starts with the spermatogonia (stem cells) with the purpose of dividing to produce primary spermatocytes.
Spermatogenesis = Diploid spermatogonium → Primary spermatocyte → Secondary spermatocyte → Spermatid → Mature sperm
Thus sperm undergoes the development from spermatogonia to sperm which takes approximately 75 days.
