These are mostly marine and photosynthetic organisms.
Kingdom Protista includes this single-celled eukaryotes Dinoflagellates.
Depending on the main pigments present in their cells, they appear to be yellow, green, brown, blue or red.
Cell wall of this organisms has stiff cellulose plates on the outer surface.
Dinoflagellates are small, usually unicellular organisms bearing two flagella (most of them have two flagella) of unequal length.
Often red dinoflagellates, for example: Gonyaulax undergo rapid multiplication and make the sea appear red (red tides). Toxin released in such large numbers may even endanger and kill other marine animals such as fishes.
