ALDOSES :

Carbohydrates containing aldehydic (-CHO) group are called Aldoses. They are further classified according to the number of carbon atoms in the chain as Aldotriose (3 carbon atoms), Aldotetrose (4 carbon atoms), Aldopentose (5 carbon atoms), Aldohexose (6 carbon atoms) etc.

Example: Glucose

KETOSES:

Carbohydrates containing keto ( =CO) group are called Ketoses. They are further classified according to the number of carbon atoms in the chain as Ketotriose (3 carbon atoms), Ketotetrose (4 carbon atoms), Ketopentose (5 carbon atoms), Ketohexose (6 carbon atoms) etc.

Example: Fructose
