Proteins are naturally occurring complex nitrogenous polymers of α-amino acids containing recurring peptide (-CONH-) linkages. Proteins are macro-biomolecules. Their nitrogen content is 16%.

Proteins are linear polymers of amino acids having a high molecular weight. They contain carbon, hydrogen, oxygen and nitrogen.
