EQUATORIAL PLATE:
The plane which is situated in the middle of the cell, between the poles of the cell during mitosis and meiosis is called as Equatorial plate or
metaphase plate
.
During metaphase centromere of chromosomes arranged on this plate for the further cell division.
Arrangement of chromosomes at the metaphase plate is conducted by the
spindle fibres
that are connected to the centromere, which helps chromosomes to aligned
perpendicular
to the spindle apparatus called centrioles.
At this plate chromosomes, specifically each sister chromatids are attached to the bundle of four to eight spindle fibres.
