RADIOACTIVE WASTES

The non-usables which possess radioactivity that arise from nuclear plants, radioisotopes used in medical, industrial and research purposes, besides the processing of ores to produce radioisotopes are called radioactive wastes.

The radioactive wastes are carcinogenic (cancer-causing). Examples: Uranium, Thorium, Radium.

Radiation that is given out by radioactive wastes is extremely harmful as it causes high degree of mutation. The radioactive isotopes may accumulate in human tissues as well as that of plants and animals.
