2. They are fitted into automobiles for reducing the emission of poisonous gases such as CO and NO₂.
3. They have expensive metals like rhodium and platinum-palladium as catalysts.
4. As the exhaust emission passes through the catalytic converter, nitric oxide splits into nitrogen and oxygen.
   Exhaust emission ―→ Nitric oxide(NO₂) ―→ Nitrogen  +  Oxygen
5. They convert unburnt hydrocarbons to CO₂ and water.
