The algal bloom is the sudden increase in the number of aquatic algae in the water bodies. The algal bloom is also known as the water bloom, it occurs in the marine as well as in the aquatic ecosystem. It is sometimes a natural phenomenon.
The algal bloom is due to the presence of the excess nutrients like phosphorus and nitrogen into the water. It causes deleterious effects to the aquatic organisms resulting in its death. The dead matter then become the food of the bacteria. The algal bloom produces number of toxic chemicals like the bio toxins, neuro toxins etc. The algal members are the cyano bacteria or blue green algae.
