SIMILARITIES BETWEEN ENZYMES AND CATALYSTS

  1. Both remain unchanged chemically and quantitatively at the end of a reaction. They can be used over and over again.
  2. Both are required in small quantity as compared to their substrates.
  3. Both do not change the equilibrium of chemical reaction.
  4. Reactions controlled by catalysts and enzymes are reversible.
  5. Both enhance the rate of chemical reaction and do not initiate the reaction.
  6. They lower the activation energy needed to start the reaction.
  7. They form short-lived complexes with the substrate molecules.
  8. They do not change the end products of the reaction.
